HOW THE APP WORKS
La Placita Chat is an app that helps seniors in Puerto Rico stay informed and connected. Users can talk with AI companions about news, sports, health, entertainment, and everyday topics in a familiar plaza setting. The goal is to support social interaction and reduce isolation.
The app is very simple to use. Once installed, the user presses the green button to call a character and start a conversation. All interaction is done through speech — no typing is required and no complex menus are involved.
Characters remember past conversations. They store preferences, interests, and personal details, and they can bring these up later to continue the dialogue. This creates continuity and helps the characters respond in a more relevant way over time.
Behind the scenes, the app keeps a basic profile for each user so companions can answer questions more accurately and offer helpful information. La Placita Chat provides a practical way for seniors to use modern technology through natural conversation and stay connected.
LA PLAZA
In Puerto Rico, the town plaza is the beating heart of everyday life, where neighbors meet to chat, sip coffee, and watch the day unfold. During Fiestas Patronales, San Sebastián Street Festival, Noche de San Juan, and Christmas season, the plazas burst into color as music, dancing, and tradition unite families and friends across generations. Food vendors line the walkways with alcapurrias, bacalaítos, empanadillas, and piraguas dripping with syrup, while Coquito and other holiday drinks add flavor to the festivities. From Plaza Colón in Old San Juan to the grand plazas of Ponce, Mayagüez, and Caguas, these spaces host artisans’ markets, domino matches, political speeches, and religious processions—sometimes all in the same week. More than architecture, a plaza is a communal living room where stories are exchanged, friendships bloom, and culture is preserved in laughter and song. It is here that Puerto Ricans strengthen their bonds, celebrate their identity, and turn ordinary days into shared memories.
